Dining Table (commission)

November 28, 2017

Custom made to order outdoor setting for 8 people.

“Quirky”, “seating for 8 people” and “made from scrap steel” were the guidelines.  A message plasma cut into the table top reads “When I sit at this table I see the space not the weeds”.  I worked with the client at each step of the construction to deliver exactly what she envisaged.

The table frame is made from 80 year old “T” iron that originally carried small rail trolleys of dried apricot trays.  These were welded to create an “H” iron frame.  The legs are two half steel wagon tyres on which are mounted cutivator tines.  Supports of steel shafting across the frame maintain rigidity.

The table top carries the message either side of the centre piece of harvester screening and orchard flat disc.  From each end of the table top down to the legs are thick chain supports, the links welded rigid.

  • Size
260 cms long, 94 cms wide, 82 cms high
  • Materials
half wagon wheel "tyres", cultivator tines, chain, "T" iron, disc, wheat harvester screening and plasma cut mild steel sheet.
