Dragonflies are beautiful to watch as the sunlight glistens on their wings. Often found near waters edge. This inspired my creation.
The dragon fly looks too heavy for the reeds on which it sits, but not the case as the ‘reed stem’ is steel shafting that has stood up to the strongest of winds, the base also being particularly heavy duty.
The body is made of horse shoes and the tail fashioned from refrigerator shelving. The eyes are brass door knobs and the legs are wood drills. The wings appear translucent with the refrigerator cooling mesh fastened to the rod surrounds with fencing staples. The leaves are harvester fingers.
This piece is one of my favourites. It shimmers in the wind ever so life like.
