Frilled Lizard

January 14, 2019

Frilled Lizards are also known as Frill Neck Lizards and are abundant in the tropical north of Australia.  Aptly named for the membrane (frill) that they display when threatened.  The frill folds down and lays along their throat normally.  I’ve depicted this frill with fridge shelving and old car seat springing.  In a defensive stand, Frilled Lizards open their mouths wide and stretch up to appear bigger.  I’ve featured the lizard on a local block of red gum for an out door setting.  Construction is mainly the exhaust tubing over laid with flat iron and ending with a heavy spring tapered using an oxy torch.  The legs are harvester fingers heated to bend to shape and the talons are cut into them.  The eyes are stainless steel nuts hooded under scrap iron.  The mouth is made of two cultivator tines again heated to bend to shape.  I’ve treated the lizard with rust inhibitor and the log with clear estapol.
