Kookaburras often sit waiting for prey. Alert yet appearing settled in for snooze!
I worked from a photo for the “stance”. Started with the beak which on a kookaburra is large, followed with the head and breast made from old cultivator tines. Eyes are washers, wings are framed with rod bent to shape and covered with mattress mesh. Tail is part of a wheat harvester ‘finger’ and the legs are made from a single link of elevator chain. I found a bit of suitable wood for a perch from our fire wood. Finished with penetrol rust inhitor. Perfectly balanced on the mantle piece.
