Magpies are aggressive at nesting time. Many a kid has bad memories of swooping magpies. They have a complex and wide range of song that resounds in the bush.
This piece is life size. I used several photos to model from. The beak was a challenge; made from a flattened desert spoon rolled in a cone with a piece of rod at the end, welded and sanded to shape. The eyes are ss washers. Magpies are muscular around their shoulders which I’ve depicted with width. The legs are strong so I used two fork handles for each leg to give the right bulk. He is perfectly balanced on his feet, in fact before I welded on the feet, he balanced on his leg stumps! The talons are ss rod.
